Most visitors to Zanzibar's south west corner are here on day trips to view dolphins from Kimikazi or to visit the Jozani Forest nature reserve, with its troops of red colobus monkeys. However you can experience an equally good beach holiday here, together with watersports activities, whilst avoiding most of the tourist rush that can be found elsewhere.
Add to this its proximity to the airport, and you will appreciate how staying here before an early morning flight departure from Zanzibar can provide a vauable alternative to overnighting in or close to Stone Town itself.
The villagers in this region away from the coast rarely encounter visitors, and hence their welcome is a particularly friendly one, showing genuine interest in those who do venture here.
A few km offshore lies the select Chumbe Island resort, details of which are provided elsewhere.
