Most of our fishing itineraries involve freshwater fly-fishing, in particular on Zambia's Lower Zambezi river, for the ferocious tigerfish.
On Zanzibar, in contrast, you can choose to fish in a fairly leisurely manner, for example by dhow, accompanied by a local Zanzibari fisherman, using local line-and-hook fishing gear.
However the real excitement is provided by Deep Sea Fishing from a properly equipped sport fishing boat.
Live bait is used for such big game fishing, and this attracts a variety of interesting catches, such as Black and Blue Marlin, Sailfish, Spearfish, Yellow Fin Tuna, Dorado, Wahoo, Barracuda and King and Queen Mackerel. Following the guidelines of the International Gamefish Association, a catch-and-release policy is strongly encouraged here, unless there are special circumstances, such as a new All-Africa record catch!
August to November are probably the best months to visit if fishing like this is what you are after.
