Although perhaps not situated on Zanzibar's finest beach, Unguja Lodge makes up for this by its totally private location, close to the fishing village of Kizimkazi.
Ideally, Unguja features only ten, spacious, villas, all with sea views, but with the three top end 'Baobab' villas also possessing their own private plunge pools.
Kizimkazi is, of course, noted for being home to several schools of both bottle-nosed and humpback dolphins, and it is definitely here that you need to stay if Dolphin Watching is on your agenda (see our separate section on Dolphin Watching).
The lodge's lush tropical gardens also provide an alternative to the Jozani Forest Reserve for viewing the rare Red Colobus monkey, together with numerous other indigenous animals.
Watersports and Dhow excursions are among the numerous other activities that can be undertaken from here.
10 villas, 7 standard plus 3 more luxurious 'Baobab' suites.
Children welcome. Discount rates for children sharing.
Open all year around.
Rates quoted are for half board. Full board supplement $15 per person per day.
Mains electricity. Mobile phone reception. Free Wi-Fi available.
Some tour operators have criticised the beach here as being virtually non-existent, but this is not the case, as our accompanying images show. It is certainly tidal, but this just means that at high tide you can step right into the ocean!
